Graduations, brothers, weddings, and jobs...

Well June has been busy and it is only the 7th! My brother Leif moved back home from Washington D.C. and Scot just graduated from high school. This means that all three of us now live at home, graduated and unemployed...Gone are the blissfull days of yesterweek when I was the only unemployed one and had the house to myself all day in peace and quiet! Now the house is back to smelling like boys and filled with the sound of video games and late night poker tournament...I really need to move sometime soon!

I had some good news this week, I got a job for the summer! It is a real blessing to not have to worry about making money for the next few months until I find my first teaching job for next year. I am going to be working at a summer camp for 1st and 2nd graders run by a private school out in Lake Oswego. I will be the head teacher which is exciting because it means I am going to have a lot of say in planning the events and activities for each week. It should be a fun summer job, and if it is not, you will be hearing about it here on my blog!

Next up is Katie and Steve's wedding...it was BEAUTIFUL! The best wedding that I have ever been to in many many ways. It was wonderful to be able to share in the joy of the sacrament of their marriage because I feel like I have gotten to watch their relationship grow from the beginning over these last two years. The Orthodox wedding service is so amazing, I can't imagine a more perfect way to unite two people in their relationship with God and each other. I knew I would cry and I made it until the crowning which pretty much gets me every time because of the powerful symbolism behind it.

The reception was also really fun, the highlight being Christy's toast! I want to get my hands on the video of her performance and transcribe the speech for my blog, she was great! I want to take some time to comment on the bouquet toss...Why is it that at every wedding I have been to it is always like the 8 year old girls that catch the bouquet? Katie tossed like ten extra bouquet which were pounced upon by all the girls under 12 who will not be getting married for at least 10 more years! I am not bitter or anything, because I am happy that Christy got handed the real one, but if the purpose of a bouquet toss is to see who will be getting married next then I say girls not of marrying age shouldn't be up there. Does anyone know what the history behind the bouquet toss really is? Greg started to "tell" us and then Katie took over, but I am curious as to what the history really is...Anyone?

Meika,
Hey! Thank you for your kind words regarding the wedding, etc. :) I'm very sorry you did not catch a bouquet... however you are of marriagable age, unlike the 9 and 12 year old girls who caught bouquets :)
Also, that "historical" info behind the bouquet toss that my dad was reading wasn't true, I think he made it up ahead of time :D
Take care!
